It’s been a while since I’ve discussed client updates with you. It’s mostly been a bunch of bug fixes and programmer jabber not really worth discussing. But version 422.0 came out yesterday (as did 422.2 which was disabled and now 422.4 to fix some more bugs) and it looks promising.

So what’s new!? Some nifty stuff to make life easier for you while using the 2.0 client. Let’s go through point by point shall we?

New Wishlist Feature

Now you can wishlist products as well as view your wishlist within the client. Unfortunately, it’s a little confusing. In order to view you wishlist, you must be in “shop mode” by having the shopping tab open as shown in the image below.

To add something to your wishlist, you merely click on the silver star under any product you’d like to add as circled in red in the below picture.

Due to performance issues, IMVU has capped the wishlist within the client to 500 items. However, you can add more than 500 and view your entire list via the website.

To make it easier, IMVU has also added a Sign Out link at the upper right-hand corner to the client (was that not there before? I never really noticed). See picture below.

Save Outfit Button

Finally. I’m happy to announce that a Save Outfit button has been added! No more typing *saveOutfit and struggling to type and time your avatar. Now there is a button within the “Dress Up”  and “My Room” tab. DOCers rejoice! Check out the image below.

And finally… collapse the top bar!

You can now do this by pressing F11 thus giving you more space to ake your awesome pictures! To make it come back, press F11 again.

And that’s pretty much it folks. Yay?

I got around to downloading version 419.6 today. I’d normally download the “big” release and test it first, but it’s my understanding that 419.0 is rather buggy [as are 419.2 and 419.4 so don't even bother with them].

So what’s new in 419.6? Nothing. Mostly some bug fixes. Here is a list of details as found on the download page.

• Introducing a palette for changing the room color in dress up mode!
• Show IMVU Promotions from the website in the Client’s Home mode.
• Prevent square characters from showing up in the text entry portion of text chat when pressing ctrl+b, ctrl+d, etc.
• Have the IMVU Quality Agent detect corrupt installations.
• Fix a bug with the camera widget in shop & dress up modes where the camera wouldn’t properly circle your avatar.
• Fix a bug in the search box in friends mode.
• Fix a crash that could occur in inbox mode because of bad network data.
• Fix a bug in friends mode that could prevent the location from displaying properly.
• Fix a bug in friends mode around friend invites.
• Fix a bug in movie mode pagination.
• Fix several crashes related to bad network data.
• Allow all URLs in Inbox mode to automatically log you in.

Are you as confused as I am? This is basically the same list of changes as I described in my post about version 418.20 and 418.22. The ability to change the room color in dress up mode isn’t new nor is the ability to see the IMVU promotions [what we refer to as the "blue bar" website side] within the client Home mode.

So who really knows what’s actually new with this version – if anything. Glad to see they are fixing bugs although many have reported to have invisible avatars with this update [which I also hear can be fixed by simply re-applying one's avatar build product or by trying on a saved outfit].

There is a new client version available with some features that I am happy about [sorta]. Version 418.20 offers one very distinct change worth mentioning – the introduction of the “blue bar” [which is actually gold now] to the 2.0 client. Now the ever-so-important information we get every day from the blue bars at the top of the IMVU website pages, can now be found in the 2.0 client featured on the home tab as seen in the picture on the left [click for larger image].

Other features and changes include the ability for IMVU to show information regarding short-term promotion links such as their 2-hour sales for their over priced credits and name change tokens. Also on the list is a bunch of client fixes and bug kills. I’ll leave you to look over it in the client download section.

Version 418.22 is also available. Biggest change is the People Finder function which was apparently broken and is now fixed. Hooray.

IMVU finally introduces the Friends Tab in version 417.12 which you can download here. Unfortunately, for someone like me with 871 friends, this tab looks mighty messy.

They haven’t done away with the regular “Buddies list” of all just yet, but according to IMVU Staffer and Engineer N8Downs, “All the engineers are definitely itching to get rid of the separate friends window, but there’s still some functionality that needs to be migrated to the new UI (e.g. settings) before we can throw that old code away. As you’ve observed, friends mode is a big step towards that, and you can expect to see more steps in that direction soon.”

One of the functions of this new tab allows us to see what Public Rooms our friends are in. I foresee a lot of people screaming for the option to not use this new “feature”. While I for one, don’t really care that people know I’m in a Public Chat room, I do have an issue with it being so easy for them to locate me and come in. Let’s face it – I love y’all, but I don’t always want to be found and bombarded with developing questions. It’s all very different from scrolling through the list of Public Rooms and having that little icon that said “One of your buddies is in here” and being able to look at the list of people there.

You can view the list in different ways – whether it be all of your friends or just those online. You can also see a sort of grid view which includes the pictures and a little information regarding that friend, or a more simplified list view. So seek out these options in 417.12 you need to click the small gear icon at the upper right in the friends tab section.

Unfortunately (yes, more negative stuff) the ability to switch back and forth between IMVU 2.0 and the UI of old will soon vanish as the old “buddies list” is done away with. There go my nice catalog images.

Of course a picture is completely necessary. My apologies to the people on my buddies list. It wouldn’t look right if I blurred you all out. For the sake of giving you all the real idea of what it looks like, I chose to display only the friends currently online. (Click to make larger)

It’s time for another IMVU Client Update. The next version is 415.6 and it is said to fix the inventory refreshing problem and the source of the crashes related to avatar cards.
